Sometimes within a recipe, the same ingredient appears multiple times. When it comes to buying the ingredients or checking whether we have enough of it, we need to know how much there is of that ingredient in total. This is especially common in dessert recipes which have multiple components where each component contains common ingredients such as eggs, sugar, cream and chocolate for example. The last thing we want is to be working through a recipe, only to find that you don't have enough cream or chocolate to complete the recipe. Normally, we'd have to manually add the ingredients together, finding each occurrence of that ingredient and adding up the amounts carefully. For larger recipes, this can take some time and lead to some errors. Shouldn't there be an easier way?

Recipe to Shopping List Generator Tool

We thought there should be! So we created this tool to help you calculate the total amount of each ingredient in a recipe. It will combine all of the same ingredients together and produce a simple list of all of the ingredients which will be useful for shopping or just knowing how much of each ingredient is needed for a recipe.

Instructions / Tips

• Add a full recipe or multiple recipes to the input box. Feel free to copy the whole recipe and we will only take the ingredients.
• The total ingredients result will update automatically as soon as the input box is changed.
• The tool will try to group similar ingredients together which should help you notice any typos and make a more convenient shopping list.
• For an ingredient to be grouped, it must have the same unit and be spelled the same. If you notice two items not grouping together, try changing it to have the same unit and name.
